  Bearings

4D Imaging engineers have extensive experience in both failure analysis and the design of new bearing systems. Our work in this area has ranged greatly. Our specializations include

* very large bearings holding up the stadium roofs and bridge sections

* drive system bearings of nuclear submarines

* crane base bearings

* small needle bearings in consumer products

The key issues we examine when analyzing bearing engineering are (1) cost, (2) intended life of service and (3) serviceability of the bearing.

  One recent example of a 4D Imaging success in this field is the retractable roof of the professional baseball stadium in Milwaukee, the Brewers Stadium. The stadium roof opens via five pie-shaped sections that pivot about large spherical bearings. Located behind home plate, each bearing supports more than one million pounds. The inside of the stadium with the roof in the closed position is pictured left.
